GUEST JEWELLERY ARTIST 2012
GEORGINA CUNNINGHAM
Local jewellery designer and maker, Georgina Cunningham, started collecting tumbled sea glass from the shores of our beautiful Mornington Peninsula more than a decade ago. An accomplished jeweller already working with organic forms inspired by cultured pearls embraced in sterling silver, she started incorporating tumbled sea glass and, more recently, fine bone china into her delightfully unique handcrafted pendants – and she’s never looked back.
Her children, the ocean and pieces of fine bone china found by scouring antique shops provide her with endless inspiration for her creations.
“My work is influenced by recycling antique tumbled seaglass. Used in combination with sterling silver, pearls, antique china, and other flotsam jetsam I link each piece back to the ocean. My children have influenced my figurative pieces, I match eye colour to seaglass to personalise each individual handmade design.”
Georgina exhibits at a number of galleries and is extensively commissioned to create designs for individuals. To view examples of her inspirational work, take a look at her blog - www.seaglassjewellery.blogspot.com.au.
